Stephen Hawking: A Remarkable Journey of a Genius

Stephen Hawking (1942–2018) was an extraordinary British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and best-selling author whose pioneering work reshaped our understanding of the universe. Born on January 8, 1942, in Oxford, England, he became one of the most influential scientists of the 20th and 21st centuries, despite facing significant personal challenges.

Hawking is widely known for his groundbreaking research on black holes and cosmology. His revolutionary theory of Hawking radiation—which proposed that black holes emit radiation and eventually evaporate—was a monumental breakthrough in linking quantum mechanics with general relativity. his discovery continues to shape scientific research on the origins and evolution of the universe.

At just 21 years old, Hawking was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Despite being given a short life expectancy, he lived for more than five decades, making extraordinary contributions to science while battling near-total paralysis. He communicated using a computerized speech device and continued to lecture, write, and inspire millions.

One of his greatest achievements outside of academic circles was his ability to popularize science. His 1988 book, "A Brief History of Time", became a global bestseller and introduced complex topics like black holes, the Big Bang, and the nature of time to a mainstream audience. The book sold millions of copies and was translated into numerous languages.

In 2014, Stephen Hawking’s life story was adapted into the award-winning film "The Theory of Everything", bringing his personal and professional journey to new audiences worldwide.

kebab stick and the little girl

"bhaiyya mujhe bhi chahiye" ( Brother, I also want) - she told us pointing the delicious street foods ready for breaking fast during the Ramzan month at Mumbai Ghansoli Darga street.
